Düsseldorf, 30.11.2021. Deutsche Glasfaser, the leading fiber optic provider for rural areas in Germany, today entered a strategic partnership for the planning, deployment and activation of at least one million fiber optic connections by 2025 with Geodesia, a global construction company with 20 years of expertise in fiber optic deployment across the world. Deutsche Glasfaser is thus securing significant construction capacity to drive the company’s targeted growth and provide rural and suburban areas in Germany with fiber optics, both quickly and efficiently. Deutsche Glasfaser is planning a total of 6 million fiber-optic connections, including 4 million by the end of 2025.

Together, Deutsche Glasfaser and Geodesia will work towards modernizing Germany’s high-speed internet infrastructure, an asset found to be crucial for everyone within society: citizens, private households, companies (also known as B2B players), public institutions, as was starkly evidenced during the recent difficult pandemic times.

Thorsten Dirks, CEO of Deutsche Glasfaser, says: “As digital provider for the regions, we are driving the nationwide provision of rural and suburban areas with fiber. Thanks to the partnership with Geodesia, we can further accelerate our high-speed fiber rollout. Geodesia is a highly specialized construction partner with many years of experience in fiber roll-out and the highest quality standards. We look forward to supplying our customers reliably and quickly with future-proof infrastructure together in the future.”

As part of the partnership, Geodesia will be responsible for deployment of the fiber and the connection of customers. In the future, this cooperation with Geodesia will represent the largest of the 28 partnerships agreed between Deutsche Glasfaser and its construction partners across Germany.

“By partnering with Geodesia, we can further increase our planning security in the context of our ambitious growth plans. This strengthens our leading position in the growing competition for capacity,” says Jens Müller, CFO of Deutsche Glasfaser.

With the agreement concluded today, Geodesia is initiating its entry into the German market. For over 20 years, Geodesia has been driving the expansion of modern telecommunications infrastructure in France and Portugal, among other countries. With around 4,000 employees, Geodesia has so far connected over 15 million households to fiber across the world.

David Drahi, President of the Board of Directors says: “Geodesia’s key strategic partnership with Deutsche Glasfaser heralds the beginning of an exciting German adventure for the Altice Group. This partnership marks a long-lasting relationship whose goal is to build and maintain state-of-the-art High-Speed Fiber Networks in order to meet Deutsche Glasfaser’s ambitious fiber-coverage plans in Germany. We are proud to bring our experience and Altice Labs’ unrivalled range of products to a new country, and share them with a long-term industrial partner and German friend.”

Anthony Maatouk, CEO of Geodesia, says: “Deutsche Glasfaser will benefit from Geodesia’s long-proven acumen in deploying FTTH technologies to its customers, thereby enjoying full end-to-end turnkey solutions complemented with a line of dedicated innovative products. Geodesia’s expertise and competence in the build-up of end-to-end chains of FTTH Networks has been rigourously demonstrated by its achievements notably in France and Portugal, Europe’s leading countries in FTTH.”
